Labelled as a Second Class Citizen

Labelled as a Second Class Citizen//

Performed by Liam Gordon

A textual analysis of identity. This performance is an exploration of gendered identities and the social masking of being LGBT in our community. This live installation piece explores biographical accounts of social, family, religious, educational, health and work communities perceive LGBT people; rather than as a person but as a sexuality. The piece also explores personal autobiographical accounts of bullying. This performance is in response of a line of enquiry given to explore an aspect of identity.

  • The performance considers how identity functions both with regards to meaning and also how the body functions as a signifier for that identity.

  • Considers the labelling of gender and sexual identity.

  • Considers biographical accounts as a form of stimulus and self-communication to create.

  • Considers the queering of a fine line art space and the social implications of the work in that space.

This is a 30min live exhibition piece.

With special thanks to Jude Woods, Leeds Art Gallery, Mark Flisher and Leeds Beckett University.

"Echoes a deep reality we all fear and hide away from. This piece of work needs to be shown and seen to help our community move forward"
